The WMU at First Baptist Church of Butner

Thw WMU - Women's Missionary Union - was founded in 1888 as an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention. Over  the years it has grown in scope and purpose and is now an entity unto itself, equipping adults, youth, children and preschoolers with missions education so that they might become radically involved in the mission of God.

The WMU - Women's Missionary Union - at First Baptist Church of Butner is the "umbrella" that covers several diverse missions groups- Women on Mission, Youth on Mission and Children on Mission.

The Youth and Children on Mission groups meet every Wednesday evening, during which time they learn about missions and missionaries and participate in hands-on missions activities.

The Women on Mission group meets on the first Tuesday of the month to pray for missionaries, learn more about them and their areas of service and discuss projects and activities to be undertaken. These projects include visiting nursing homes and retirement centers such as Brantwood, Oxford Manor, Granville House, Heritage Meadows and the Learning Center, a facility for brain injured adults. Coveres dish meals have also been provided for recovering victims of substance abuse at the Damascus Home, and for our local law enforcement officers as a way of thanking them for the service they provide to our community. In addition, the Baptist Women have provided refreshments and entertainment at the local correctional center. In August the group host's a "Christmas Dinner" for the church body, during which time toys are collected for the Toy Ministry of the Church and Community Missions (CCM Hut) of the Flat River Baptist Association.

All of these projects, and many not listed here, are an undertaking in a spirit of love and service and a desire to reach out to others with the message of God's forgiveness of sin through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.

All of the women of the church are invited to be a part of the Women on Mission activities and the joy those activities bring to each of us, in a way that they might be able and willing to participate.
